Sandi Nypaver
Ultra-Distance Trail Runners
Birthday: June 28
Current Location: Boulder, Colorado
I remember running for hours with my twin sister as far back as elementary school. Unfortunately I told myself that I wasn’t really a runner until I got the opportunity of a lifetime while I was in college. After a series of unusual events I was selected to be a youth ambassador for the non-profit, Impossible2Possible, where I went on a 10 day trek on Baffin Island. The guides of the trip were all accomplished ultra runners and I was immediately hooked on the sport after hearing their stories. I got back from the trip and signed up for a 100 mile race!

Up Close, and Personal
To me, sport stands for
An opportunity to bring the best out in myself and others.
On a typical training day,
I do: Everything I can possibly fit in while getting enough sleep.
I eat: Love my oatmeal for breakfast!
I wear: Rabbit clothes.
I listen to: Before my run I listen to everything from The Strokes to Macklemore to Beyonce!
I recover by:Sleeping and eating a plant-based diet.
I cross train by: The typical strength work to sled riding!
My idea of an effective training session is
To work on my mindset as much as my body.
The moment when I discovered my athletic potential was
Still discovering my potential!
The three biggest lessons I have learnt so far in my athletic career
1. Embrace the challenge of a bad day as much as a good day .
2. Competition is about bringing out the best in others and myself .
3. I control where I put my focus and there is always something good to focus on.
Before a big race, I tell myself
All I have to do is my best each moment.
The toughest race of my life was
Speedgoat 2013 – Long story, but I ran it during a really rough time and I barely made it to the start line.
The most memorable moment of my sporting career so far
Crossing the finish line of my first 100 miler with my twin sister, Ray.
My training sanctuary is
The San Juan mountains.
My dream starting line is
Even though there are races I’m looking forward to, I actually don’t have one. I appreciate each starting line as it comes.
I nourish my soul with
Animals, nature, books, and spending time with loved ones.
Unived helps me by
RRUNN During Hydration Mix: I love the ease of getting my electrolytes and calories together.
RRUNN Post Recovery Mix: First thing I take after a challenging run to start the recovery process.
I have chosen to associate with Unived because…
I trust the products and it’s a company that aligns with my values.
In 2019, I am setting my sights on
Moab Red Hot 55k – Nine Trails 35 miler
Golden Trail Series – Broken Arrow 50k
My favourite Unived product is…
It’s tough to choose but I’ll go with the RRUNN During hydration mix.
